Mary Lee was born to the union of Louis and Olga Stigler on June 17,1920 in Carroll County, Mississippi. She was the oldest of eleven children. At an early age, she confessed her faith in Jesus Christ and became a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Mary Lee was joined in wedlock with George W. Jefferson on March 4, 1950. She and her family moved to Indianapolis in 1955 where she immediately joined New Bethel Baptist Church. Her husband preceded her in death in 1970.
As a child she sang in the choir with her sisters, so it was only natural for her to join the choir at New Bethel. She was a faithful member of the Gospel/Inspirational Choir for over 40 years. She served as the President of Naomi Missionary Circle for many years and held the office of ice President of the Circle until her passing on February 10, 2001.
Mary Lee graduated from the Poro Beauty College as a beautician and she worked as a private housekeeper until her retirement in 1994. |
